We recently completed the full design of a contemporary new build dwelling in South Buckinghamshire for a family relocating from London who appointed us to design them their new home.
The design brief was for a highly efficient, contemporary piece of architecture which also needed to be a warm family home. The site is located in a heavily wooded area surrounded on three sides by ancient forests and the scheme seeks to take advantage of the natural environment by having large areas of glazing to capture links and views to the trees. The new house is designed with two blocks of accommodation linked by a central glazed atrium clad at ground level in polished concrete tiles and oak timber to the first floor. The two blocks are wrapped with a white rendered helix roof which guides visitors to the main entrance but also unifies the dwelling. To the rear open corner sliding glazing to the lounge, large sliding doors and open corner glazing to a play room link the house to the garden and beyond blurring the lines of inside and out.
Internally the house is designed on the premise of being a family home with modern detailing providing a warm and fun atmosphere for the family. We have worked extensively with the clients to define and design the heating, ventilation and cooling requirements to enable the house to be an efficient home with full Home Automation integration.
