Our project for Little Court is a superb example of what you can achieve with good design and thorough understanding of planning law. The existing bungalow is located within the Green Belt in South Buckinghamshire on a wonderful open green site with southerly views over paddocks to the rear.
However, been a bungalow in the Green Belt provided major challenges for securing planning approval to meet our client’s requirements of extending upwards. Firstly, we utilised the existing Permitted Development Rights to secure approvals for a large two storey rear extension and also loft conversion of the existing bungalow which allowed us to secure planning approval for creating first floor accommodation within the roof space.
Once this was secured we designed a new scheme which extended the bungalow on the ground floor and also at first floor level creating a new master bedroom suite and guest bedroom suite for the property. The design took advantage of the views to the rear and makes the most of the south facing rear elevation through new open plan rooms with large areas of glazing. The projecting roof forms create a contemporary aesthetic to the property but also retains the bungalow form to be consistent with Green belt planning policy, as well as offering shading from the sun.
The design significantly increases the size of the property and creates a large feature open plan Kitchen/family room space, modern lounge, a further reception room and four family bedrooms. The use of a simple but stylish palette of materials with white render, zinc, timber cladding and glass transform the property into a fantastic piece of contemporary architecture.
